Optical Coherence Tomography allows us to SEE MORE than ever before! Lowes & Partners are excited to offer the non-invasive and highly accurate retinal mapping procedure that’s taken the optometry world by storm: OCT imaging.
Using nothing more than light waves, our skilled optometrists are able to achieve a detailed cross section of the tissue lining the back of the eye, offering a unique view of the retina’s distinct layers. Through measuring these layers, we are able to achieve more accurate diagnoses for glaucoma and many types of retinal diseases. This process is also able to detect changes in the optical nerve itself – which is why it can be useful in detecting glaucoma.
OCT imaging is completely non-invasive, making it the preferred diagnostic procedure for many of our clients. While the process could require the use of dilating eye drops, often we can gain a clear image of your internal eye structure without the need for any medication whatsoever. You will be asked to position yourself in front of the Lowes & Partners OCT machine, where the comfortable cradle will ensure that your head remains motionless throughout the 15-minute appointment. The procedure itself is as simple as looking into the OCT machine, with nothing to surprise or alarm you at any point.
The OCT procedure is completely non-invasive and pain-free, and offers a thorough, in-depth view of your internal eye structure.
There are many conditions which can be effectively recognised using the OCT imaging process.
These conditions include:
Age-related macular degeneration
Central serous retinopathy
Here at Lowes & Partners, we always select the perfect diagnostic process for your needs. While OCT Imaging is ideal for many patients, there may be situations in which your needs will not be met with this process. For example, Optimal Coherence Tomography requires the clear path of light waves through to the back of your eye: should you already suffer from thick cataracts, or should there be significant bleeding or obstruction present, this may be an ineffective option.
Our optometrists are happy to discuss the best options for your specific needs.
